Social Studies:

 

The purpose of 8th grade social studies is to foster a deeper understanding of how the United States emerged as a strong and free nation.  In order to achieve the understanding, students will analyze the social history and economic developments of the United States during the 20th and 21st centuries in regards to history, global affairs, and international relations.  The purpose of this course will allow students to learn the skills and acquire the knowledge needed to succeed in the 21st century.  Students will develop communication, problem solving, critical thinking and researching skills through the use of primary/secondary sources and technology resources.

 

Goals:

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

*Understand the relationship between cause and effect

*think critical and analyze ones own thoughts and actions as well as other

*respect of cultural diversity and knowledge of diverse cultures

*understand how inventions and technology impacted American lives

*understand civil rights issues of women, African Americans, Native Americans, and all immigrants in the United States

 

Course Goals:

1.Students will learn about United States history through thorough activities and projects.

 

Requirements:

All students should bring their textbook and both devices to class unless told otherwise.

There will be projects and assignments throughout the year in which encourage the students to think “outside-of-the box”. Students need to put time and effort into this class in order to be successful.

 

Homework Policy:

Under the 8th grade policy, all late assignments will be automatically deducted 50%.

Discipline:

If tardy or unprepared three times, students owe me time BEFORE school. Any additional offenses will come with further consequences.
