Selective Opportunities

Selective Opportunities Programs for students are selected on the basis of merit, need, ability, or peer preference.


FRIENDSHIP HONOR SOCIETY

This is a specially selected group of students who have qualified by meeting high standards in academics, leadership, service, character, and citizenship. Eighth graders are formally inducted during the spring. Sixth and seventh graders can be named as potential candidates for future induction.

JAZZ BAND

This group of highly talented musicians is specially selected from among all Concert Band members. The students will meet two mornings each week before school, from 7:15 AM to 8:15 AM on Thursdays and Fridays. They will perform as a group at school concerts and performances.

LADYBIRD SINGERS & MAN CHOIR

The FJHS Vocal Ensemble will prepare for community performances and local competitions. Students will develop musicianship through singing a broad and challenging selection of songs. Membership is open to all choir, band, and orchestra students, and is determined by an audition in the fall.

SIXTH GRADE SUPERSTARS

Near the end of each quarter, the Sixth Grade Superstars will be announced. These are students who have been very responsible about their daily homework assignments and have not been referred to the office for behavior problems during the quarter. These students will be invited to a special evening Superstar Activity featuring food, fun and games!

SPIRIT SQUAD

Seventh and eighth grade students are eligible to try out for the squad. Spirit Squad members will cheer at boys’ basketball games. Meets during required practices as announced during November, December and January.

STUDENT SENATE

Student Senate is a service club consisting of sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. Representatives from all homerooms and Student Senate officers meet regularly to plan and organize school events such as the dances, Red Ribbon Week, charity drives, fund raisers and any other special events that occur throughout the school year.

VARIETY SHOW

Friendship students will have the chance to display their talents in the “entertainment extravaganza” of the year! Auditions are open to all students, which will be held shortly before winter break. The show will be in late January or early February.
