John Jay Newcomer Chit Chat Club – 3.01
Students and staff from John Jay Elementary School presented information about the Chit Chat Club. The Chit Chat Club is made up of 29 students who are newcomers to the United States and are learning English as a new language. The club was created to develop community among students and provide additional opportunities to practice language. The club meets every Thursday after school for students to participate in various activities.

NSSEO FY25 Tentative Budget – 3.02
The NSSEO (Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization) provides special education services to CCSD59 students with severe special needs as well as training and professional development to special education staff. NSSEO presented information on their budget and how it impacts CCSD59.

AVID Presentation – 5.01
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a framework that supports students with college and career readiness at all three junior highs. The framework focuses on students taking charge of their own educational journey, with rigor being a key point of the AVID program as it pushes students’ determination to meet high level standards.

Safety and Security Update – 5.02
CCSD59’s Director of Security and Safety gave updates on the current state of safety and security at the district as well as what’s to come in the future. Topics shared included the partnership between CCSD59 and CCSD21, updating standard response protocols, school resource officer programming, and the current pilot of kiosks within secured vestibules at Admiral Byrd and Grove Junior High.

Food Service Presentation – 5.03
CCSD59’s mission, in partnership with the Food Service Management Company, is to work together to provide quality, nutritious, and satisfying meals to CCSD59’s diverse student body. The food service presentation included updates on the process to prepare meals in CCSD59, the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) requirements for breakfast and lunch, NSLP meal patterns, program rates, and program participation.

Approval of the 2024-2025 E-Rate Purchase Cycle – 7.01
After fully evaluating quotes from all vendors, the Administration is recommending a contract be awarded to Sentinel Technologies Inc. for $301,115.00. All hardware costs are subject to the E-Rate discount, which is currently 80% but is revised annually. Licensing and support is eligible at a lower E-Rate discount percentage. Therefore, the overall net cost to the District is estimated to be $166,065.21.
The board awarded a contract for Network Firewall to Sentinel Technologies Inc., for a cost of $301,115.00 with an estimated E-Rate discount resulting in a net cost to the District of $166,065.21.
Approval of the 2024-2025 School Year Pay Bus Fee – 7.02
Each year the Board of Education approves the pay bus fee for the coming year. This is the amount a family will pay to have their child transported if it is determined that the student is non-eligible for free transportation.
The board approved a $525 pay bus fee for the 2024/25 school year. This is flat compared to the 2023/24 school year.
Approval of the Maintenance Vehicles Bid – 7.03
Sealed bids were opened on Friday, February 23, 2024, and were evaluated to verify compliance with the specifications set forth in the call to bid. Friendly Ford submitted a bid that met all specifications. Their base bid of $156,523.88 including fees, less the trade-in(s) totalling $5,000, resulted in a net bid of $151,523.88.
The board approved the bid for vehicles to Friendly Ford for $151,523.88.
Approval of the Closing Date for the 2023-2024 School Year – 7.04
Annually, the Board of Education establishes the last day of student attendance and the final calendar for the school year.
The board approved the last day of attendance for students and staff will be May 31, 2024.
Proclamation for Volunteer Appreciation Week April 15-19, 2024 – 7.05
CCSD59 volunteers are advocates for children, partnering with schools, parents, educators, and business leaders in support of the educational process and student success.
April 15-19, 2024, is proclaimed Public School Volunteer Appreciation Week within CCSD59 in recognition of the contributions made by volunteers working throughout our school district during the 2023/24 school year for the benefit of students, staff, and our community.
Proclamation for Staff Appreciation Week – May 6-10, 2024 – 7.06
Staff Appreciation Week, in conjunction with National Teacher Appreciation Week, serves to increase community understanding, appreciation and support of our nation’s schools. The week of May 6-10, 2024, has been designated as National Teacher Appreciation Week.
May 6-10, 2024, is proclaimed as Staff Appreciation Week within CCSD59.
Approval of District 59 Education Foundation Donation – 7.07
The CCSD59 Education Foundation would like to donate a total of $2,554.30. Below is the breakdown.
- Empowerment Fund will receive $1,000 for Mi Casa Su Casa.
- Grove Junior High will receive $500 for chorus to attend a competition.
- Holmes Junior High will receive $500 for the Soar & Explore event.
- The purchase of an additional picture frame, totalling $54.30, for the art display that will be put up at an Administration Center.
- The Early Learning Center will receive $500 for materials and supplies.
The board approved the donation of $2,554.30 from the CCSD59 Education Foundation.
Approval of Usage IGA with Mt. Prospect Park District – 7.08
CCSD59 and Mt. Prospect Park District have agreements in place to provide recreation programs for District 59 families for elementary students. The park district has proposed to amend our intergovernmental agreement. Proposed changes include the following:
- A shift in timing for space usage (when available)
- Defined supervision during park district activities when on school grounds
- Edits regarding Brentwood Park, due to the transfer in ownership to CCSD59
The board approved the intergovernmental agreement with Mt. Prospect Park District and CCSD59.

Committee of the Whole Meeting 8th Grade Graduation Ceremony Attendance – 10.01
Due to the scheduled 8th grade graduation ceremonies, the board will not hold a committee of the whole meeting as originally planned on May 28.
