Photos: Clearmont students, staff gather for Polish Constitution Day
Every May 3 is recognized as a Polish national holiday to commemorate the Constitute of 3 May 1971, the first modern constitution in Europe. While it has only been an official holiday since 1919, festivities have surrounded the day dating back to the early 19th century.
On Wednesday, Polish Dual Language students and staff at Clearmont Elementary gathered for their annual celebration of this day. Staff led students in singing of the Polish and U.S. national anthems, sharedd Polish history and heritage, took part in trivia, and showcased some favorite Polish celebrities.
Three Clearmont staff members were also recognized for receiving the Medal of Commission of National Education (KEN Medal). This is a distinction awarded for outstanding services to education and upbringing by the Minister of Education and Science of Poland. Joanna Pawlina was nominated by Mr. Piotr Semeniuk, previous vice-Consul of the Republic of Poland for her work on the Polish Dual Language program in CCSD59. She also nominated two colleagues, Iwona Wajda and Adriana Zycki, for being on the original team that started the program.
